Ridgefield Public Schools - Alert

Ridgefield Public Schools - Alert

Dear Parents and Staff,

I am writing to provide you with the latest update concerning our District’s procedures to deal with Coronavirus, COVID-19.

The District is taking the following steps to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Field Trips

  • Postponement of all in-state and out-of-state field trips from March 12 through May 1, 2020.
  • The District will use our best effort to reschedule field trips, if possible, when there is no longer a public health risk.

School Day and After School Events

  • Postponement of all school day and after school large gatherings from March 12 through May 1, 2020.
  • The District will try to reschedule events, if possible, when there is no longer a public health risk.

Athletics

  • The spring sports kickoff meeting and breakout sessions have been cancelled.
  • Athletic information related to each sport will be emailed to those who register.
  • Based on current conditions and guidelines, spring sports tryouts and practices will occur as scheduled.
  • Decisions regarding spring sports competitions will be shared prior to the first day of tryouts, March 21.

Chartwells

  • Our food services provider, Chartwells, increased their normal cleaning protocols to include additional high touch surfaces.

Continuity of Learning Opportunities

  • Tomorrow there is a scheduled early release day, and as planned, teachers will be working on learning packets.
  • Learning packets will be accessible through the District’s website if there is a prolonged closure.  These learning packets are not considered distance learning.
  • Families who cannot access the packet through the District’s website should request a packet from their child’s school.
  • The CT Department of Education expects Districts to exhaust all possible make-up days before applying for a waiver.  Additionally, school districts that request a waiver must ensure that all students have equitable opportunities for learning.

Rental Use of Our Schools

  • In order to mitigate the potential spread of Coronavirus, our facility user groups will be notified that our schools will not be available for their activities from March 12 through May 1, 2020.
  • The Facilities Department will notify user groups when Coronavirus is no longer a public health concern.

Cleaning Our Schools

  • Our Facilities Department continues to clean our schools with EPA approved disinfectants.
  • Our custodians continue to be ever vigilant in ensuring that all high touch surfaces are properly disinfected and sanitized several times during the day and evening.

Transportation

  • All student transportation providers are disinfecting vehicles every day.

Presidential Primary on April 28

  • The District will work with the Registrar of Voters and appropriate State agencies to determine the course of action for that day.

Out of Country Travel

I want to commend all staff for their ongoing efforts to help maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. We will continue to monitor all conditions and make necessary adjustments based on the dynamics of the situation.  We understand these are challenging times that may produce anxiety and fear.  While those feelings are understandable, we need your support to provide a healthy environment for our students, staff and community.

Thank you for your support and effort. We will continue to provide accurate information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

JeanAnn C. Paddyfote, Ph.D.
Interim Superintendent of Schools
